What goes in Address Line 2?
The single most-asked question on US shipping forms has a simple answer: Address Line 2 is only for a unit inside the building β Apt 4B, Suite 1200, Unit 7, Floor 3. If you live in a house with no unit number, leave it blank; empty is correct, not incomplete. Never put the city, a second street, or delivery instructions there.
US address order
Street number comes first, then the street name (123 Main St). The final line combines city, two-letter state code and 5-digit ZIP β adding the ZIP+4 extension (62704-1234) is optional but speeds sorting. USPS prefers everything uppercase with no punctuation for machine reading, though normal casing delivers fine.
What if the form has no Line 2?
Append the unit to Line 1 after the street: "123 Main St Apt 4B". USPS reads both forms identically.
